In a firm demonstration of its commitment to sustainable development, the National Gas Company of Equatorial Guinea (SONAGAS GE) actively participated in the opening ceremony of the launch seminar of the Social and Environmental Diagnosis on the different public and private interventions at the national level, an important event organized by the Ministry of Forests and Environment.
The event took place at the Bahía de Malabo Hotel and brought together numerous representatives
from the institutional, business and civil society spheres, including senior officials such as
The Deputy General Manager of GEPetrol and representatives of EG LNG. They all shared a common goal: to assess the social and ecological impact of the actions undertaken in the Congo River Basin region and to design joint strategies to harmonize economic development with environmental conservation.
Representing SONAGAS, Maribel Nsing Ela Ada and Feliciano Ntugu Obono, from the
Marketing, Communication and Image Department, contributed their vision in this space
of dialogue, emphasizing that sustainability is not just a goal, but a shared responsibility. For the company, this national assessment is a key tool for promoting responsible decisions in the energy sector and contributing to planning aligned with the country's environmental commitments.

During the opening ceremony, the Director General of the Environment, representing the Minister Delegate for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and the Environment, presented His Excellency the President of the Republic's environmental policy guidelines. He took the opportunity to express his appreciation to the Congo River Basin company for its ongoing support of the sustainability policies implemented in Equatorial Guinea.
The seminar will serve as a platform to highlight new opportunities for collaboration
International. Delegations from Asian companies, with headquarters in Dubai and China, expressed their interest in investing in the national environmental sector, in specific initiatives such as the implementation of an oil recycling plant in Malabo and the development of a non-polluting plastics plant on the mainland.
One of the key moments of the event was the presentation by Mr. Tony Diosdado Ava, Director General of the Congo Basin, who highlighted the importance of accessing international funds linked to the green economy. He emphasized that his organization has the support of international investors willing to finance specific projects in Equatorial Guinea and urged the government to present viable initiatives as part of the seminar's main objective.
Among the main objectives of the meeting is the training of inspectors of the
Ministry of the Environment and the training of local companies, such as SOCOSEMA, in technical environmental inspections. The ambitious plan to update the national environmental assessment was also presented, a process supported by the Government and the United Nations. The implementation of this plan will be overseen by a specialized technical committee, also responsible for providing updated technical training.
Finally, all economic stakeholders present were called upon to become multipliers of good environmental practices. The "polluter pays" principle was emphasized, recalling that environmental responsibility must be
shared and effective to achieve balanced and lasting development.
SONAGAS's participation in this event reaffirms its role as a key player in Equatorial Guinea's ecological transition and its willingness to work closely with the authorities to build a sustainable future for present and future generations.
